Police arrested Muslim preacher Sheikh Ramadhan Juma Thursday (October 24th) in Mombasa at the controversial Musa Mosque in the city's Majengo neighbourhood, sparking a series of running battles between youth who support the cleric and security forces.Daily Nation reported that this has sparked new tension rise.
Police accused Juma of inciting youth through his preaching to riot.
Mombasa County Police Commander Robert Kitur confirmed that the cleric was in custody and said they would release a statement Friday over the same.
Juma's arrest comes three weeks after Sheikh Ibrahim Ismail and his three companions were killed in Bamburi by unknown assailants after leaving the same mosque. Supporters of Ismail torched Salvation army church and clashed with police after the incident.
