Conjestina Achieng was recently detained at Avenue hospital over medical bills amounting to Sh529, 000 . She has however been discharged from Avenue Hospital after businessman/politician from Mbita Sammy Wakiaga settled the bill.
Wakiaga who got the information of Conjestina’s detention over the media held a brief fundraiser in Kisumu before accompanying her parents to the hospital to help her get discharged.
The bill had accumulated to Sh595, 000 by the time she was getting discharged which resulted from her overstay at the facility due to unsettled bills.
Conje who appeared fit, reiterated that she was still ready to go9 back to the gym soon and continue with her job.
“Boxing is my job and I want to assure my fans that I will be back soon,” she said.
The jovial Conjestina held her medals high to show her fans that she was still up to the game said her health condition was as a result of neglect by the sporting industry and the government.
She however expressed disappointment with the government for disowning certain aspects of sports and concentrating on others.
“All these medals I hold belong to the government. I need a lot of support from them so that I can undertake my sporting with ease,” she added.
Wakiaga challenged sportsmen and women to learn from the past and get managers who can enable them go about their finances so that issues, such as that which faced Conjestina can be eradicated.
“Talents have earned people millions and if not well taken care of it may not show at the end of it,” said Wakiaga.
Conjestina however expressed disappointment with the
Rev Kenneth Wachianga who mobilized the people for the fundraiser said Conje would stay in Kisumu for a while as she stabilize.
Conjestina also thanked the hospital for taking good care of her irrespective of unpaid bills.
The hospital gave her a 10 per cent waiver on the bills and promised to keep contact to ensure that her condition fully stabilizes.
