Fans who were eagerly waiting for the Safaricom Sevens Series, the Driftwood have to look for something else to do this weekend.
Kenya Rugby Union(KRU) regrets to announce the cancellation of the
third leg of the Safaricom Sevens Series, the Driftwood Sevens, which
was scheduled to take place at the Mombasa Sports Club on 24th and 25th
August 2013.The decision to cancel the tournament has been forced upon
the Kenya Rugby Union by Mombasa RFC who have continued to be in breach
of an existing sponsorship agreement between us, the KRU and East Africa
Breweries Limited. Apparently, Rugby Driftwoods 7s drifts away after
Kenya Rugby Union cancelled the third round due to co-sponsor issues.
The game was to be the 3rd round of the local 7s circuit. These news
were not received well on social media as many rugby fans were offended
for the last-minute postponement. They expressed their views about this
postponement on twitter. Here is a press release of Kenya Rugby Union’s
chairman confirming the postponement of the game.
