The Kenyan government will be required to pay Sh15,000 to every young
unemployed university graduate if a motion saying this goes through in parliament. The motion was
moved by Hon. Oyugi Magwanga, MP Kasipul Kapondo who proposes the
creating of a National Unemployment Scheme for university Graduates.
“This house urges the Government to create a national unemployment
graduates fund at 1 per cent of the annual national Budget from which
all unemployed youthful graduates aged 18 to 35 years will be paid a
monthly rate of Sh15,000 until they get employment,” states the Hansard
Report.
The proposed national employment scheme will function under the
Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Services and will “create
opportunities for the unemployment graduates in reputable firms and
institutions.”
