Police Arrest Tanzanians in Mombasa Over Begging Syndicate

Police in Mombasa have revealed a syndicate behind the human trafficking from Tanzania of at least 26 persons with disabilities who are begging on the coastal city streets.
The mastermind behind the syndicate is allegedly believed to be a woman who is being pursued by the police.

However Police arrested six Tanzanian men allegedly involved in trafficking this disabled people into the town from the neighbouring country.

 Police said the suspects place the disabled people on the streets to beg for money, which they collect at the end of the day.

The six men were arrested alongside six physically challenged beggars, including two children aged five years, in a one-bedroom house at Mwembe Tayari in Mombasa.

According to Mombasa County deputy inspectorate officer Swaleh Mwamlevi, the move comes after several complaints were received.
